The Black Ribbon Campaign is operated by Camp Wakanda Forever Inc. This policy explains how campaign information is collected, used, protected and shared when you use blackribboncampaign.com, take the pledge, purchase ribbons, register for events, submit stories or photos, contact the campaign, create an account, volunteer, become an Ambassador or Chapter Leader, support a fundraiser, or interact with campaign services.
Information we collect
Depending on how you participate, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, city, province/state, country, mailing or pickup information, account information, pledge preferences, event registrations, payment and order records, organization or sponsor details, messages, communication preferences, photos or media you choose to submit, and campaign referral or QR source information.
How we use information
We use information to operate the campaign, process ribbon orders and contributions, manage pledges and supporter recognition, communicate about registrations and events, administer chapters and Ambassadors, provide account and QR tools, prevent abuse, improve campaign operations, maintain records, and comply with legal or accounting obligations.
Public recognition and submitted media
Your name or photo is not placed on the public Supporter Wall unless you choose the applicable public-recognition options. Public submissions, stories, photos or organization profiles are reviewed before publication where the campaign workflow provides moderation. You may contact us to request correction or removal of public campaign information.
Payments
Debit and credit card payments are processed through Square or another configured payment service. Card details entered into Square’s secure payment fields are not stored by the Black Ribbon Campaign website. E-Transfer and cash transactions are recorded for payment and fulfillment tracking.
Security and anti-abuse services
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. Cloudflare Turnstile may process technical information needed to distinguish legitimate visitors from automated abuse. Hosting, email delivery, security, payment and other service providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to the campaign.
Cookies and local device storage
The website may use cookies or browser storage for login sessions, carts, preferences, campaign QR attribution, mobile/PWA functions and event check-in operations. Private account pages are excluded from shared PWA cache storage by the campaign software.
Communications
Transactional messages related to your pledge, order, registration, payment or account may be sent when necessary to provide the requested service. Optional campaign updates are sent only where the applicable consent or preference permits them. You can change communication preferences through the website or an unsubscribe link where provided.
Retention
Campaign records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, operational continuity, dispute resolution, financial recordkeeping and legal obligations. Privacy requests may result in deletion or anonymization of eligible records; some financial transaction records may need to be retained while personal fields are minimized or anonymized.
Children and schools
School participation should follow the school’s own privacy, consent, photography and parent/guardian requirements. The campaign does not ask schools to publish student personal information without appropriate authorization. Where a minor submits information directly, a parent, guardian or authorized school representative should be involved when required by applicable rules.
Your choices and privacy requests
You may request access, correction, export, deletion or anonymization of eligible campaign information by contacting the campaign. Public recognition and optional communications can be changed through the available campaign tools or by contacting us.
